Supporting Moore County for 40+ Years
For more than four decades, Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care has worked to meet the essential needs of Moore County residents. Through programs that provide food, clothing, prescription assistance, employment support, adult education, and emergency financial aid, we help individuals and families overcome challenges and move toward stability. Our mission is powered by community donations, dedicated volunteers, and a shared commitment to ensuring every neighbor has the resources to thrive.
Food
We provide nutritious food packages to Moore County residents facing food insecurity, including monthly deliveries for seniors and emergency groceries for families in crisis.
Clothing
Through our resale shops and clothing programs, we offer season-appropriate apparel, linens, and essentials to ensure local families have what they need year-round.
Perscriptions
We assist with the cost of essential prescriptions, helping individuals maintain their health and stability during times of financial strain.
Shoes for Students
We provide new athletic shoes and socks to Moore County elementary students in need, helping them start the school year with comfort, confidence, and support.
Adult Education
Our Step Up Moore County program offers weekly classes in job training, resume building, and life skills—helping adults achieve self-sufficiency and long-term success.
Financial Assistance
When emergencies arise, we provide limited assistance for essentials like rent, utilities, and heating fuel to prevent short-term challenges from becoming long-term crises.
Our Services
Food
While Moore County is known for its scenic golf courses and longleaf pines, the reality for many local families is far less picturesque. Hunger is a daily concern for far too many of our neighbors. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina reports that over 17% of its service population experiences food insecurity, and more than 60% of school-aged children rely on free or reduced-price school meals. These numbers reflect a critical need that extends well beyond the classroom.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Coalition provides standard food packages filled with both perishable and nonperishable items—enough to feed a family for up to seven days. While many of these items come through community donations, each year we must spend over $90,000 to purchase additional food to meet the need. This support ensures that more than 6,500 residents have access to nutritious meals, easing the burden on families and allowing them to focus on other essentials. Every contribution makes a tangible difference, turning compassion into sustenance for our community.
Clothing
In the Sandhills, seasons change quickly, and children can outgrow clothing in what feels like the blink of an eye. For families already working hard to make ends meet, these changes can create real challenges. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Coalition is able to provide vouchers for shopping at Miss Hallie’s and Cris & Florrie’s Boutique—two of our resale locations stocked with quality, seasonally appropriate clothing for adults and children. Your contributions ensure that local families can dress with comfort and confidence throughout the year.
But clothing is only part of the story. Donor support also makes it possible to provide essential household items like sheets, towels, and blankets, helping families create a safe and comfortable home environment. For parents of young children, diapers in sizes newborn through six are available, offering peace of mind during an expensive stage of life. Every gift—whether it’s clothing, household goods, or financial support—helps meet practical needs while restoring hope and dignity to our neighbors in Moore County.
Shoes for Students
Each year, the Coalition partners with Moore County school social workers and Shoe Carnival in Aberdeen to provide new athletic shoes and socks to elementary school students in need. Referred by their schools, children are fitted for their shoes in-store, ensuring the right size and comfort to support their learning, play, and confidence. This program helps students start the school year with one less worry and a step toward success.

Medication Assistance
For many in our community, the cost of prescriptions can mean the difference between maintaining health and going without vital treatment. The Coalition helps bridge that gap by covering the cost of essential medications for those who qualify.
Our team also works directly with pharmacies, healthcare providers, and assistance programs to advocate on behalf of clients; ensuring they receive the care they need without the added stress of unaffordable costs.

Financial Assistance
Life can change in an instant. An unexpected medical bill, job loss, or family emergency can make it impossible for a household to keep up with basic living expenses. The Coalition’s Financial Assistance program exists to provide a safety net in those moments, helping families avoid a downward spiral that could lead to homelessness or other long-term hardships.
Thanks to community donations and proceeds from our resale shops, we offer limited financial aid for essential needs such as rent, utilities, and heating fuel. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis by trained volunteers or staff, ensuring assistance is provided where it can make the greatest impact. Payments are made directly to service providers, giving families immediate relief while maintaining accountability. For many, this short-term help is the bridge they need to regain stability and move forward with confidence.
